Consultation on medical interpreting for maternal and child health and related areas

We offer multilingual support to all women in Japan to help them give birth and raise their children with peace of mind. 

Our healthcare interpretation services are available to anyone who has difficulty communicating in Japanese, or who wishes to consult in their native language.

Maternal and Child Health Interpreter Consultation Service

(English・Japanese)

Consultation Hours:Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:00 - 17:00 

(except national holidays and year-end and New Year's holidays)

Medical interpreters in 17 languages are available so that you and people at a health center or hospital can communicate. 
 
These include English, Chinese, Nepalese, Vietnamese, Myanmarese, Filipino, Thai, Korean, Mongolian, Indonesian, Khmer, Hindi, Bengali, Portuguese, Spanish, French,and Urdu. 
 
Please use our interpreters to talk anything you are having trouble with, or you don’t understand; such as about your body during pregnancy, giving birth or raising your children.
 
If you want to use a medical interpreter, ask someone at your public health center or hospital. 
Or call SHARE. SHARE will speak on your behalf with someone at a health center or hospital.
 
An interpreter will be provided by the Public health center or hospital.
You do not need to pay for this interpretation service. It is free.
 
In principle, this service is available to all mothers and families living in Tokyo. 
However, if you live outside of Tokyo and are interested in receiving this service, please ask at a health center, hospital, or SHARE.

Consultation Desk for International Residents’ Health and Medical Issues

・Personal information obtained through consultations will be used solely for the support we provide to consultees. We handle this information with care.
・Some cases may be used in business reports after the personal information has been anonymized.

International Social Service Japan ( ISSJ )

ISSJ is a private organization that can help you in the following fields: supporting stateless children; helping immigrants such as refugees and persons applying for refugee status to adapt to society; cross-border adoptions; assisting parents concerned about child-rearing; facilitating cross-border family reunions; and addressing welfare issues caused by crossing borders.

CHARM(Center for Health and Rights of Migrants)

CHARM is an organization working toward a society where everyone can live in good health by supporting people living with HIV and those who communicate in languages other than Japanese. We are a citizen organization that collaborates and provides support in the Kansai region.

Japan Association for Refugees(JAR)

JAR is an organization working toward a society where refugees can live with dignity and a sense of security.

AMDA Medical Information Center

AMDA is a non-profit organization that provides medical consultation and free telephone healthcare interpreting services, on the request of medical organizations, in eight languages. We also accept requests directly from patients.

KIF is an organization that develops and provides multilingual materials on mother-child support for international residents and their supporters.

Mothers’ and Children’s Health and Welfare Association

Mother’s Tree Japan is an organization that hosts consultation meetings and child-rearing salons for international mothers and children. They also develop and provide multilingual communication boards.
